Despite an often magical and wonderfully still sense of time that seems to reign over the new shop, the calendar does not lie and the oh-so-many modern day markers of each measured, ticking moment let us know that we have been open for business here at 197 Rosemount Place, Aberdeen for more than four months. We've had some special 'firsts' here already and the air is charged in anticipation of more to come.
We hailed our arrival on Rosemount on 31st October 2008 in a neon pink explosion of silks and feathers, punctuated with black Halloween lace and lubricated with a (few) cauldron(s) of champagne. Slinky dark Cruellas mingled with sparkling tutu'd fairies as those of you we knew from the Vintage Phoenix shop in Chattan Place came and celebrated our new home and our new name.
Just to clarify, the shop in Rosemount is called Rose Hip & Tutu. We are keeping the name Vintage Phoenix for our own clothing label while we expand our stock to include ranges of locally designed items of jewellery, accessories and home furnishings alongside some lovely vintage jewellery and accessories. We also stock “Love The Planet” a range of organic and ecological cosmetics produced locally by the lovely Laura McComski.
The new name itself comes, like every piece we make, with a story. Rose is in reference to our new location and also our love of florals and femininity. Hip because that’s what we are and that’s what we like to swing. Tutu came along because, like always, we felt that we just wanted more! And with the crest of our wave seemingly unwilling to break, we were offered the fabulous phone number 622 522. Yes, we did have ‘a moment’!
We have a growing team of gorgeous, creative women who are sharing the joys with Sally and Janet and our first team meeting echoed with a collective cheer over targets met and hopes exceeded. We had sherry and the mince pies to warm our first Christmas in the new home. We have had our first Swish party where you came with your unwanted wardrobe and left with finds from those of other women. Look out for future SWISH PARTY dates!
Also on the horizon (and much on our minds) is our fashion show at Aberdeen Art Gallery on Thursday 23rd April where our new collection for Spring/Summer 2009 will be released into the wild.
We had the dream and we are now pinching ourselves on a daily basis. But it’s real and we look forward to welcoming you to our world.
