Just read this review of a fashion show we did a few weeks ago and we really like it! Thanks GCG.

‘UNSEEN’
At a Charity Fashion Show in aid of Cancer Research and The Toni & Guy Foundation local designers took to the stage to showcase some of the most original yet wearable items. With their trademark full skirts made from shirts, Rose Hip & Tutu channeled a patriotic-with-a-twist themes, amalgamating tartan, tweed and forties style prints, with tough metallics, buckles and lace.

How are we consuming this Christmas?

Recycling

It is estimated that more than 1 million tonnes of textiles are thrown away every year in the UK alone. At least 50% of the textiles we throw away are recyclable, however, the proportion of textile wastes reused or recycled annually in the UK is only around 25%.
Recovery and recycling:-
• Reduces the need for landfill space.
• Reduces pressure on virgin resources.
• Results in less pollution and energy savings, as fibres do not have to be manufactured or transported from abroad.

Consumers can contribute by recycling , re-fashioning and re-styling existing clothes, swapping clothes with friends or choosing to invest in quality rather than quantity when buying clothes.

How is Rose Hip & Tutu contributing to more sustainability???

We use reclaimed fabrics wherever possible.
We recycle and upcycle quality preloved garments.
We promote clothes swapping through our Swish Parties. Book one now!
Where reclaimed fabrics are not appropriate, we use locally woven materials.

What can you do???

Come visit us, buy from our ready made items or commission a piece especially!

One of our most powerful ways of exerting influence is as consumers.

Rose Hip goes Lolita for the Tea Party!

Rose Hip & Tutu were invited to create costume for the opening of Tea Cosy 2009, an alternative art, craft and design fair open to new graduates, established artists and art organisations. The event is run by SMART consultants and Grampian Hospitals Art Trust are the host this year.

The event was set up so that the contributors each had a table in the tea party where they could display their wares and entertain their guests.

Sally decided on a Lolita-serves-tea approach to the costume design with frills, aprons and splashes of neon!

Good fun, good cause, good show!

Where we'll be in August

I read a great quote on a flyer the other day.

"All that is gold does not glitter, not all of those who wander are lost"

J. R. Tolkien

At Rose Hip & Tutu the wanderlust hangs in the air like fairy dust and like any good adventurista when we something catches our attention we're off to explore.

Three wanderings we'll definitely be month this month are . . .

02/08 HOMECOMING TARTAN DAY MARKET

We've been rifling through one of our favourite areas in the stock room and playing with tartans again. Expect some of our trademark Scottesque Skirts with a twist along with some new ideas.

08/08 at 8 CHATTAN PLACE OFFICIAL OPENING

Yes we're going back to the place where the dream started but now it's all changed and we're going to give blessing to the opening of

Peltoniemi
Made-to-order

Our lovely friend Tytti Peltoniemi is opening her concept store and workshop/showroom at our old address. Stocking some produits exquisites and showcasing her range of made-to-order bags, Tytti accepts nothing but the best in her own work so you'll be sure to find here only the finest of the fine. And, oh, yes . . . it was on her flyer that I read the words of Tolkien above. She's got some great books to buy in the most wonderful of editions.

28/8 at WIZARD FESTIVAL, New Deer

In its third year and with a cracking line up (Idlewild, The Beat, Buzzcocks, The Charlatans and The Cuban Brothers are among those we'll be heading for), the powers that wizardly be have requested our presence as adjudicators for Fancy Dress Friday. How could we refuse! It's being held in the Wee Wizard's Children's arena but don't let that stop all you big kids out there from donning your dressing up box favourites for the event! You know we love the surreal to just-all-out-there!

We're not lost but we are wandering, see you out there!
